Martin John Nicholls and Friends
                                           Baptist Church Hall

Friday evening, 9th March, at the Baptist Church Hall, we recorded a concert with Martin John Nicholls, songwriter, singer, storyteller and Friends who performed a brilliant set of heartfelt songs, mostly self-penned, intersperced with his stories of life in West Africa, often drawing sharp comparisons with our quiet untroubled comfortable lives. Originally, we were just going to record the music, but Johns words are so potent, and so lucid, that you'll hear the whole thing online.

Those who attended also experienced a delicious African dinner with a Senegalese flavour. The concert was a benefit for Christian Aid. Martin, besides turning out an excellent clawhammer picking on his guitar, is lucky enough to have two good looking girls on stage with him, Jill singing and Nicky playing keyboards, with three part harmonies, producing a very full sound, not forgetting Penny, who was projecting slides to enhance the show. What I really like about Martin is this; he has sincerity, he has experienced everything he talks about, and he means it.
